Do you have mobility?

Functional Mobility: The ability to actively achieve a range of motion (actively is defined as: Flexibility + Strength/Control)

Some people have flexibility and can get into many positions and move their limbs all sorts of ways.  That is good, but how many of them can CONTROL those large ranges of motions? Can they produce force in those ranges of motion?

What good is having flexibility, if you can’t actively control those ranges or produce force? Essentially you can move into a big stretch position, but if you’re asked to produce force and or drive with force out of that position….you can’t….

That is where the disconnect is. We all have gaps between where our flexibility ends and our functional mobility begins.

To bridge that gap we use, Functional Range Conditioning  (FRC).  FRC allows us to get in touch with our joints and figure out where our range ends and how to produce force in the beginning and ending points of our personal flexibility.  If we want to minimize injury and move better, we all need more functional mobility.

If you’re curious as to your current state of functional mobility, drop us a line. We can make an assessment for your current needs/sport. Make the necessary changes and give you a program for becoming stronger throughout your entire flexibility curve.

Control everything! (or not)

We wake up each day with the intention of having the best day we can. In some cases we carry on pretty well. In others, we have to fight through muck and keep our eyes downstream.

Each day we can only control so much. Certain decisions are completely above us or out of our scope and control. It’s those days that are hardest.  How do we keep a positive outlook when we can’t control anything?

It is during these times that paying it forward and being the best human you can be on an individual level matters the most. How you treat the grocery clerk, your next customer, your boyfriend or girlfriend or best friend. Every day interactions count in the big picture.  Just like doing exercise for 10 minutes a day adds up over 365 days, being kind, loving and living with gratitude adds up every day.

Not everything will be in our control.  It hinders us on an individual level if we let those instances fuel anger or negative emotions.

Once you have determined your best course of action, remain positive! Don’t let anger override your best intentions that you set for the day. Remember that you have to live with yourself all day and the decisions that you ultimately make.

Help make those decisions the best ones possible for your life and the community around you. Stay positive, pay it forward, be nice and live with gratitude. Then you are truly in control.

Ahead of the curve

What drives you to make yourself better? Do you wait until you have hit a wall or are bored with your work? When do you focus on being healthier? Is it when you suffer an injury or nagging pain stops you from doing the things you love?

Instead of waiting for January 1 to do a total reset, start practicing mindfulness and maintenance everyday.  It is easier to do 10 minutes of body work a day to stay healthy and avoid aches and pains than suffer an injury that will set you back for three months.

Read books or blogs (like this one!) that challenge you.  Focus on not only sharpening your current skills but creating new ones. Life is about learning and progressing everyday.

If you choose to do body maintenance each day for 10 minutes and challenge yourself everyday by reading something new or trying to learn a new skill, by the end of 365 days you will be ahead of your curve. You won’t need a January 1 reset. The New Year will now mean 365 more days of learning and personal growth.

Movement

Every bit counts. Standing while watching TV, walking around while you are on a conference call. Drinking a water instead of a soda.  Are you sitting for over 45 minutes? If you are and you can get up and move for two minutes, do it.

Movement promotes blood flow and makes us feel better. Try to not reach for that energy drink when a quick walk will help you just as much.  Find a time that works for you to move. It can be a short walk, a full on workout or any movement!!

Reach for the sky and stretch your body as opposed to reaching for another sugary drink or energy powder.

You body was made to move, take advantage of it!

A little each day

Moving the rock up the hillside takes time.  Small increments of progress. There will be days of bigger movement then others. That rings true for our daily lives.

Some workouts will be better than others. Some days we will get more done. What matters is that we consistently show up and make progress.  Even though that progress might seem small in our daily lives, it is compounded over 365 days.

Show up, be present. Even a few inches of progress a day will keep you on track and get your rock to the mountain top.

Whiteboard

A whiteboard can be erased easily. One swipe or two with the eraser. Making it a clean slate again with endless possibilities.

Approach each day with the same mindset.

A car cuts you off on your way to work or you get a nasty email first thing in the morning. Process it, then wipe your slate clean.

Create endless possibilities to draw on your board for the rest of the day.

It’s a new year and time to flourish in your open mindset. The possibilities are limitless.

New year

Four days until the New Year. Don’t wait until it is 2017 to create your goals and objectives for the upcoming year. Once January 1 shows up on your calendar there should have already been preparation.

What do you want to accomplish in 2017?

What is a one HUGE goal you want to try and achieve in 2017?

What little goals each month will help you make it to the big goal of 2017?

Dig deep, think about it and think outside the box. Choose goals that are fun, will be rewarding and have you striving to be the best person you can be.

Be prepared for 2017 before it gets here.

Making waves

How often do we strive to make changes? How often do we sit where we are, being content with what has come along and what lies ahead?

What if, when we got in a pattern of comfort, we challenged ourselves and made some waves?! (Internally via decision-making or externally with our actions)

Humans are creatures of comfort and habit. When something gets comfortable and predictable we like that. All because we know what to expect. The only issue with that is, down the road we look back and think..”hmmmm…I’ve been doing the same thing every day for 5 years…what the heck?!”

Waves can be small, waves can be large. Determine how much you personally want to throw your body around in the pool.

The point of making waves is not causing a disturbance just because and saying “Ha! I made a ruckus and people noticed.”

We want to make waves that push us to be better people. Help us achieve the next step on the ladder to our main goal. Waves are made with and for a purpose.

Make it the best day! (and throw some waves in there 🙂
