Jump the hurdle

The big deal you have been working on didn’t go your way. What do you do now?

Create a story about why it didn’t happen and bemoan the fact you are back at square one? Continue to sulk until you get enough people to feel sorry for you?

Or

Acknowledge it does kind of suck. Realize it happened and now focus on overcoming this challenge to meet your original goal?

You can create a story and look for pity or you can create a new reality and make your previously set goals a reality.

Too often we get caught up in writing our own stories about an event that happens in our life. We replay that over and over until we have complained to enough people or finally want to move on. That can be a long time.

Regardless of how long that time may be, don’t get stuck in your story. Focus on your end goal and learn from what happened.

This experience won’t define you or your success, how you react to it will.

Bring a smile

Give a big smile to the mirror when you wake up or when you start your car.

Make it habit to smile every morning when you brush your teeth. Why look at a grumpy version of yourself?!

You just woke up, you are alive,  celebrate it!

Bring a smile with you into a meeting or on the bus.

We have talked about this before. It’s easy to be grumpy and feel crummy about your situation. Only you have the power to change how you FEEL and that is the kicker.

Do it. Change how you feel. Love how you feel.

When is the last time you made a phone call to someone who is close to you?

We often get caught up in the simple and easy electronic form of communication. Saying we are too busy for a phone call or they probably don’t want to talk anyway.

Connect with your loved ones with a phone call. Especially if you are in a different state.  Reach out and make that connection again. Haven’t talked to a friend in a while? How about a call, not a text.

Make communication personal again and engage with who you care about. You’ll be surprised how good it might make you feel.

Creating Urgency

Urgency drives business. Perhaps phrased a little better. Urgency drives decisions.

Creating urgency in a sale is paramount to generating new business. Without urgency the client will most likely hem and haw about a decision. Stringing you along for 3 weeks or 3 months. If these is no rush, then why can’t I just wait longer?

Time will kill a deal in any arena. The more time a prospect has to think or weigh other options the less likely you are of securing the business.

Create urgency in tactful and truthful ways. Limited space, current price discount, added value of your product of service. Clients want to purchasing goods and services that will benefit them and serve their business.

When there is urgency in the sale, they will sign and realize those goals sooner once they have joined with you.

Create urgency, form partnerships, drive business.

Moderation

When you’re traveling and eating at restaurants how easy is it to eat healthy?

There are temptations on every page of that menu. We all know it. It can be breakfast, lunch or dinner. Sausage gravy (yes please!) Onion rings (yum) Pasta with loads of cheese and meat (What do you mean I can only have one serving?!)

Maintaining healthy eating habits is about moderation. You can eat a scoop of ice cream, some pizza, a biscuit with gravy or whatever else strikes your fancy. The key is to not do it all the time. Enjoy your food and the experience. Just like anything else in life, do it in moderation.

You will feel better physically and mentally after the fact. Moderation can help you stay on track to achieving your goals in all aspects of your life. Just as being on Facebook or Twitter for a prolonged period of time can be a detriment to your productivity. Moderation can be applied to more aspects than food.

Stay on the path to success. Stay disciplined.

New Music

We came across a free concert last night. The artist was talented and the setting was incredible.

Band Of Heathens

All of the above combined for a pretty unique and fantastic experience. I hope you enjoy the music as much as we did!

What’s your time worth?

Have many times have you sat down and said, “Well that was a waste of my time”.

Calculate how much your time is worth. Does what you’re doing make you happy? Is what you are doing furthering an endeavor you are passionate about?

Time is finite. It is a limited asset. Delve into what makes you happy and is worth you time.

Once you have figured that out, do it! If certain activities or people need to be phased out….well so be it.

Your life and your time. Make it count.

Make it the best day!

Create with no restraint.

Create from a random idea.

It can be a drawing, a song, a poem, a new meal. So many things to create, don’t let your mind or this blog limit you.

Take some time and tap into your creative juices.

Asian Turkey Meatballs with Zucchini

This dinner is fast, easy and healthy. You can use a spiralizer to make zucchini noodles or you can cut them into rounds, which is what I did.
Ingredients:
  • 1/4 cup panko crumbs
  • 1-1/4 lbs 93% lean ground turkey
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro
  • 3 scallions, chopped
  • 1 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tsp sesame oil

For the Dipping Sauce:

  • 3 tbsp reduced-sodium soy sauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons sesame oil
  • 1 1/2 tbsp fresh lime juice
  • 1 1/2 tbsp water
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh scallion

Directions:

In a large bowl combine the ground turkey, panko, egg, salt, scallions, garlic, ginger, cilantro, 1 tbsp of the soy sauce and 2 tsp sesame oil. Gently mix with your hands until combined well. Form into uniform meatballs. Place in little oil in the bottom of skillet. Heat the skillet to medium-high heat and add meatballs. Cover and cook for 15 minutes, gently rotate the meatballs throughout cooking.

For the dipping sauce: mix the lime juice, water, soy sauce, and remaining 2 teaspoons of oil in a bowl. Add the scallions and set aside.

Transfer the meatballs to a serving dish and mix with the zucchini. Stir the sauce, then drizzle the meatballs with a little of the sauce. Serve the meatballs with the remaining sauce on the side.

Embrace the day

Yesterday might have not gone how you wanted it to.

Tomorrow can go either way, we don’t know.

However, we can create today and live in the moment.

Failures and successes from the past are just that. Failures and successes in the past. They do not have a direct correlation on how you will become successful today. Unless you plan to dwell on the failures and let them shape your view of the present.

Create the day you want. Live it with gratitude. Do not let yesterday dictate today.

Make it the best day!
