Excuse me

Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Lost? Looking for a file that you can’t find? Don’t know how to pronounce a word in a foreign language?

Asking for help doesn’t mean you’re stupid. It means you want to make sure you get it right. There is no shame is asking questions. Society makes us feel like we should know everything. We obviously don’t, so ask!

Personally or professionally, be the thoughtful question master.

Walk about

Wanting to get a good exercise day in but have no equipment? Find the hills and steps in your current city or town. If your work or the nearest attraction is only 1 mile away, walk.

Explore the city, take in the sights and sounds. Connect with where you are.

You will notice things that passed right by when you drove or took the bus. Engage in your surroundings. This is especially important when traveling and exploring new cities. Intricate doorways and windows can be missed by taking the tram everywhere. Not only will you see more sights, but the exercise you get will feel wonderful!

What’s in your backpack?

Notebook, phone, wallet, gym clothes, transit card, headphones….dreams?

Where do you want to explore? What drives your passion for working? Do you want to vacation, travel, sit in the back yard?

Each day that passes is a gentle reminder that our time is precious. Your backpack should be full of what you aspire to do.

Setting your intention and making your dreams become realities. Try not to make your pack too heavy. Take in your experiences, not all on your phone.

Pack your bag and live your dreams.

Breathe, look, love, repeat.

Stress?!

Stress is real. How do we deal with it? Stress can come in bad forms (work, business, personal) or positive (exercise).

Dealing with stress is crucial to having a positive outcome from the scenario. When negative stress is high in your life there are a few steps you can take to make it more manageable.

1. Find your breath. Slow and easy

2. Listen to soothing music, while closing your eyes

3. Take a mental step back, see the current situation and the big picture

4. Breathe, this is more important than you think

5. Take positive steps to progress and move past the current situation.

There are a multitude of options when dealing with stress. The most important one to do, is the one that helps you get through it. Find the best way that you deal with stress and implement it with a positive mindset.

Why not now?

I will retire and enjoy everything then. One more email then I will relax and spend time with the family. I can be home late again tonight, it’s OK.

More often then not we put our work first and enjoyment second.  We always have time for more work, but never quite enough time to invest in ourselves.

Enjoy what you have now, this moment, this day, this evening. If you step back and look at the big picture, work will always be there. You can always answer another email or schedule a meeting. Create a healthy work life balance. Tomorrow or the next hour is not promised to anyone.

Yes, planning for the future is important. I am not advocating spending all your time traveling or spending all of your earnings and not saving. However, having a balance is integral to living a life filled with quality.

Enjoy the moments with your family and friends by putting your phone away. Setting time restrictions on when your phone retrieves work emails. Your clients and co-workers will get used to not getting emails back on the weekend.

It will be OK. Enjoy your life with each step, instead of anticipating the next 40 with no regard to your current time and place.

What’s your style?

Style can mean many things. Your style is who you are, your personal brand. When you show up are you comfortable in what you’re in? Are you trying to just fit in?

Find your personal style and rock it. What makes you feel comfortable, what feels good.

Certain situations sometimes do call for attire that might not be your first choice, but those events are normally few and far between. Create your style, take a moment and think about what it means to you.

Your life is your brand and your brand is who you are.

Reaction assessment

Not everyday goes exactly as planned. Actually most days never go as you planned. However, it is how you react and adapt to the day that speaks to who you are.

There are many curveballs that come into play from the moment you open your eyes. How are you going to react will determine the path and happiness of the rest of your day.

When a curve ball is thrown at you, don’t think “What else could go wrong?”

Get in the habit of thinking and saying out loud, “How will I learn from this and move forward so I am end up in a better spot then I was 5 minutes ago?!”

A small change in thinking and verbalization of a positive affirmation will help you stay focused. This might not change anything right away, and some more things might come your way that are not beneficial to you. However, if you stay positive and react without negativity or a woe is me attitude a shift will occur.

It might take 8 hours, but it will happen.

Patience and persistence is key.

Remember your end goal and how in two weeks this seemingly significant moment will be surprisingly insignificant.

Pack the snacks

When there is a busy day ahead the last thing we think about is our food for the day. We know our schedule is busy with meetings and running around. However, we don’t plan for the healthy snacks we need to stay fueled.

By preparing healthy snacks the night before a busy day, you will be rewarded. It will keep your energy higher and you will not succumb to the fast food temptations.

The options are endless for grab and go snacks you can prepare at home. Here are some of my favorites!

  • Roasted non-salted almonds (or any nuts you prefer)
  • A peanut butter (natural peanut butter, no salt or oils added) and banana sandwich on whole grain bread
  • A cup of non-fat, plain, Greek yogurt with berries mixed in or whey protein isolate mixed in
  • A bag of your favorite veggies cut up. hummus or peanut butter for dipping
  • A smoothie you can made the previous night
  • Homemade trail mix
  • Avocado spread on a piece of toast
  • Quest or Rise protein bars

Make it the best day!
